Jammu, Oct 16 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday announced that his government has approved the revival of the historic Darbar Move, reaffirming his demand for immediate restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and assuring that the issue of daily wagers remains a top priority.

As to news agency JKNS, addressing a press briefing in Jammu, Omar said, “Ever since we took office, our focus has been on serving the people whose mandate brought us here. It has been a different experience working directly on their issues. We had expected the Centre to keep its promise of granting statehood back in the first year itself, but that did not happen. Today, I urge Prime Minister Modi and his cabinet colleagues to ensure that statehood is returned to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay.”

Highlighting employment concerns, the Chief Minister stressed that the government is determined to resolve the issue of temporary workers. “The regularization of daily wagers is a historic measure. We stand committed to this cause and will continue working towards fulfilling it,” he said.

On administrative matters, Omar disclosed that the cabinet has already cleared the proposal to bring back the Darbar Move. “The file was forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor, who has given approval. The practice will be resumed shortly,” he added.

The Darbar Move, a practice introduced in 1872 by Maharaja Gulab Singh to shift the capital between Jammu during winters and Srinagar during summers, had continued for more than a century before being discontinued in 2021 by the then administration. (JKNS)
