Kulgam Police Tracks Down Two Decades-Old NDPS Evaders, Arrests Made

Kulgam, Oct 17 (JKNS): Police in Kulgam on Friday apprehended two long-term absconders wanted in NDPS Act cases, who had been evading arrest since 2005 and 2006.

Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads that the arrested persons have been identified as, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Qadir Sheikh, resident of Nassu Badrahgund, who was wanted in FIR No. 107/2005 under Sections 15/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund. The accused was arrested from near J&K Bank Qazigund after evading arrest for about 20 years.

Another person namely, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh. Nabi Ganie, resident of Lalen Ganoor Kulgam, presently residing at Levdora near Railway Bridge Qazigund, who was wanted in FIR No. 223/2006 under Sections 15/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund. The accused was absconding for around 19 years, it reads.

Statement further reads that both the accused were evading arrest since long and have now been taken into custody. Their arrest reflects the sustained efforts of Kulgam Police in tracking down long-term absconders involved in NDPS-related offences.

SSP Kulgam, Anayat Choudhary (IPS), while appreciating the teams said that Kulgam Police is committed to bringing all offenders, especially those involved in drug trafficking, to justice. The action against absconders will continue to ensure that no one evades the law, statement reads. (JKNS)
