Jammu, Oct 20 (JKNS): The Indian National Congress has decided to withdraw from the Nagrota Assembly constituency in favour of its alliance partner, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), as part of a coordinated effort to consolidate the alliance vote and counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Ravinder Sharma, Chief Spokesperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), as per news agency JKNS said in a statement that the decision followed detailed consultations and assessment of the JKPCC’s report.
He noted that during the 2024 Assembly elections—when the Congress and NC had contested on a friendly understanding—the National Conference had finished second in the final tally from Nagrota.
“Taking into account the broader coalition principles, ground feedback, and the shared objective of defeating the BJP, the Congress high command has decided to leave the Nagrota seat to the National Conference,” Sharma said.
He added that the move underscores the alliance’s commitment to unity among secular and democratic forces in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
