Man Caught in Anantnag for Impersonating Senior Police Officer

Anantnag, Oct 24 (JKNS): Police in Kokernag foiled an attempt to mislead the public when they apprehended a man carrying a senior officer’s uniform during a routine naka check, authorities said Friday.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, Police Station Kokernag today foiled an attempt of impersonation after a naka party of Police Station Kokernag apprehended a suspicious individual during routine checking, it reads.

The individual, identified as Mohd Umer Mochi S/O Mohd Jamal Mochi R/O Zalangam, was intercepted while carrying a bag. On noticing the police party, the suspect attempted to flee from the spot but was tactfully apprehended by the police personnel, it reads.

During the search of his bag, a police uniform bearing the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police was recovered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was allegedly using the uniform to impersonate a senior police officer with an intent to deceive the general public, it reads.

In this connection, Case FIR No. 118/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation is underway, it reads.

District Police Anantnag assures the public that strict action shall be taken against those attempting to impersonate police/civil officers or exploit public trust. Citizens are advised to remain vigilant and report any such suspicious activities to the nearest police station immediately, reads the statement. (JKNS
