Srinagar, Oct 24 (JKNS): The National Conference (NC) secured a decisive victory in the Rajya Sabha elections held in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, winning three of the four seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to bag one.
According to official results as per news agency JKNS, Chowdary Ramzan, Sajad Kitchloo, and Sammi Obroi of the National Conference were declared winners, while BJP’s Sat Sharma clinched the fourth seat after a close contest with NC’s Imran Nabi Dar.
The polling took place earlier in the day at the J&K Assembly complex under tight security and concluded with counting in the evening. All 86 legislators cast their votes, including AAP MLA Mehraj Malik, who exercised his franchise through postal ballot from detention, officials said.
The NC’s strong performance was aided by the support of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), both of which had earlier announced their decision to back the NC candidates to keep the BJP from gaining ground. The vote of AIP MLA Sheikh Khursheed was crucial in the final tally, sources added.(JKNS)
