Srinagar, Oct 24 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Friday alleged that the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are playing a “dual game” publicly opposing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while privately maintaining cordial ties with its senior leaders in New Delhi.
Addressing media persons as per news agency JKNS, Sharma said both regional parties have a long history of interactions with BJP stalwarts such as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Narendra Modi, despite criticizing the same party before the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“It’s double standards — when they meet BJP leaders over lunch in Delhi, it’s perfectly fine; but when an ordinary Kashmiri shows support to BJP, they call it ‘impure,’” Sharma remarked.
He said such selective politics has deepened divisions among communities and fostered unnecessary resentment. “Political rivalry should not breed hate,” he said, adding that honesty and fairness should guide public discourse.
Sharma also accused the NC and PDP leadership of shielding their own actions from public accountability. “They collude silently to keep the truth away from the people,” he said, claiming that recent remarks by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti were intended to spread misinformation for political mileage.
