Srinagar, Oct 28 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday said that all ongoing water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) are slated for completion by 2028, citing delays in fund release as the primary reason for extended timelines.
In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone, the Jal Shakti Department as per news agency JKNS stated that the original target for completion of all JJM projects was March 31, 2025. However, non-release of funds under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and Union Territory Schemes (UTS) during 2024–25 hampered timely execution.
“The Department is actively pursuing the release of funds from both the Government of India and the Finance Department so that all schemes under JJM are completed within the extended timelines,” the reply read.
The government disclosed that a balance requirement of Rs 6,254 crore is needed for the completion of pending JJM projects. Once these funds are released, all liabilities will be cleared and payments for completed work will be settled, the department added.
Regarding local demands, the reply noted that there is no proposal yet to extend the Kalantra-Shrunz pipeline as sought by residents of Khoie area. Meanwhile, villages including Wagoora, Takiya Wagoora, and Najibhat are currently receiving water supply at 40 LPCD (litres per capita per day).
“The possibility of augmenting service levels, particularly in outgrowth areas, is under consideration,” the department stated.
The government reiterated its commitment to executing all JJM projects efficiently and ensuring safe drinking water access across the Union Territory.—(JKNS)
