Srinagar, Oct 28 (JKNS): PDP MLA Waheed ur Rehman Para on Tuesday expressed serious concern over what he described as “deep-rooted regional disparity” in the issuance of social category certificates across Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting data provided by the Revenue Department in reply to his question in the Assembly, Para in a post on X wrote that Jammu region accounts for a dominant share in almost every social category, while Kashmir’s percentage remains minimal.
In a post on X, Para wrote, “Data shared by the Revenue Department reveals a sharp regional divide in certificate issuance over the last two years.”
He shared the breakup as follows: SC – Jammu 99.2% | Kashmir 0.67%; ST – Jammu 87.2% | Kashmir 12.7%; OBC – Jammu 56.6% | Kashmir 43.4%; EWS – Jammu 88.5% | Kashmir 11.4%; RBA – Jammu 32.9% | Kashmir 67.1%; ALC – Jammu 85.2% | Kashmir 14.7%.
Calling the figures a “breach of fairness, equality, and administrative neutrality,” Para reiterated his party’s demand for a proportional reservation policy that aligns with population demographics.
He said such disparities risk undermining the very foundation of J&K’s welfare structure, calling for immediate government introspection and corrective policy measures. (JKNS)
