Kupwara, Nov 12 (JKNS): A Muslim man from Teetwal, Karnah, has donated a small piece of land for the construction of a toilet block for the Sharda Temple located at the LoC in Teetwal, Kashmir.

Ajaz Khan carried the land papers from Teetwal on behalf of Ghyasuddin, a local resident who has donated 1 marla of land for the toilet block at Sharda Temple and Gurdwara at LoC Teetwal, Karnah, Kashmir.

The All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) felicitated Ajaz Khan today at a Kashmiri Samaj event held in New Delhi. “We are grateful to the donor and felicitating Ajaz Khan, Coordinator for assisting in the Sharda Mission, one of the core issues of AIKS since 2005,” said Ravinder Pandita, President of AIKS, while talking with Kashmir News Service.

Pandita added that Ghyasuddin’s noble gesture of gifting one marla of land free of cost for the construction of toilet blocks at Sharda Temple Teetwal is highly commendable, especially since the government had been unable to do so for the last three years. “This act reflects communal harmony and goodwill towards the Kashmiri Pandit community,” he said.

Yatris and visitors had been facing difficulties due to the lack of proper facilities, and construction of the toilet block will soon be undertaken by the Save Sharda Committee Regd, which manages both the Sharda Temple and the Sikh Gurudwara at Teetwal—the northernmost tip of India right along the Line of Control.

Ajaz Khan has been coordinating all yatri arrangements between the Army, Civil Administration, and the Sharda Committee for both the Sharda Temple and Sikh Gurudwara. He supervised the management of around 10,000 pilgrims, including 2,000 Kashmiri Pandits, during 2014 and ensured the temple remained functional even during Operation Sindoor and other periods of cross-firing violations.

Noted debater and researcher Sushil Pandit, while speaking on the occasion, expressed gratitude to the donor for this act of harmony and humanity. AIKS bearers Arun Shali, Rajinder Premi, Ajay Pandita, Ashish Zutshi, and Kusum Shishoo presented a memento and shawl to Ajaz Khan and his wife Nasreen in appreciation of their service. (JKNS)
