Valley Freezes: Srinagar Records Season’s Lowest at –1.6°

Srinagar, Nov 12 (JKNS): A fresh wave of intense cold swept across Jammu & Kashmir last night, with temperatures dropping below the freezing point in most parts of the Valley.

Srinagar witnessed its coldest night of the season as the minimum temperature dipped to –1.6°C.

Data shared by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, Qazigund too settled at –1.5°C, while the upper reaches continued to reel under harsher conditions. Pahalgam plunged to –3.8°C, Kupwara registered –2.0°C, and Budgam remained the coldest spot at –4.2°C. Shopian followed closely at –4.1°C, and Pampore touched –3.4°C.

In other parts of the Valley, Gulmarg recorded –1.0°C, Kokernag 0.8°C, Bandipora –2.6°C, Baramulla –3.2°C, Pulwama –1.4°C, and Ganderbal –1.7°C. Sonamarg settled at –2.9°C, while Srinagar Airport and Awantipora logged –2.0°C and –2.2°C respectively.

The cold wave extended into the Jammu region as well. Jammu city recorded 10.0°C, while Banihal slipped to –0.5°C. Katra reported 9.0°C, Batote 4.5°C, Bhaderwah 1.2°C, Udhampur 5.0°C, Kathua 10.2°C, Ramban 6.1°C, Rajouri 3.4°C, and Kishtwar 4.2°C. Jammu Airport stood at 11.7°C.

With temperatures continuing their downward trend, winter has begun to tighten its hold over the region much earlier than usual. (JKNS)
