Srinagar, Nov 15: Nine people lost their lives while 29 others sustained injuries after a powerful accidental blast ripped through Police Station Nowgam on the outskirts of Srinagar late Friday night, a senior police officer told JKNS.
The officer said the explosion occurred during sample-extraction from a major cache of explosives recently seized in connection with an ongoing probe into a ‘white-collar’ terror module.
He said the blast took place when police personnel and forensic experts were handling explosive material brought from Faridabad, Haryana.
According to the officer, the explosives were part of the 360-kg haul recovered from the rented residence of arrested doctor Muzammil Ganaie, currently under investigation.
He confirmed that nine bodies have been recovered from the debris, while efforts are underway to establish their identities.
All 29 injured personnel have been shifted to hospital for treatment, the officer added. —(JKNS)
