JAMMU, Nov 15 (JKNS): The Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K is doing an exemplary work of conducting 69th National School Games-2025, making all requisite arrangements in a most befitting manner. As learnt, the medals secured by J&K in the 69th National School Games hosted by it portrait a picture of efficiency and excellence of the Department.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, Ms. Ansuya Jamwal, expressed these words while formally inaugurating the 69th National School Games 2025 U-19 Girls Taekwondo Championship at the Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, today.
She emphasized that the Government is deeply committed to promoting sports across every corner of the Union Territory, with the Department of Youth Services and Sports setting an exemplary benchmark in this vital endeavor.
She was accompanied by Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Ms Vinakshi Koul; Dronacharya Awardee and Chief Wushu Coach of India, Mr Kuldeep Handoo; Field Officer SGFI, Mr Parichay Mishra; DYSSO Jammu, Mr Sukhdev Raj Sharma and Mr Mushtaq Ahmed.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Vinakshi Koul highlighted the remarkable achievements of the department, noting with pride that Jammu and Kashmir has secured an impressive total of 17 medals so far in the 69th National School Games. The medals were won in the disciplines of Football, Wushu, and Taekwondo (Boys), with the Union Territory proudly hosting this prestigious event in the current season.
Thirty six (36) States/UT/Organisations are taking part in the event with a participation of around 45o athletes and officials.
Meanwhile, the competitions in the weight categories of Under-19 Girls -63 KG and -68 KG categories were held today.
In U-19 Girls -63 KG, the Gold medal was bagged by Radhika Sharma of KVS, Silver was won by Simran of Chandigarh, while the Bronze medals went to Sumrdha Pal of West Bengal and Vaishnavi of CBSE.
In U-19 Girls -68 KG, Siddhi Atul Bendale of Maharashtra clinched Gold, while Silver medal went to Lakshita Malik of Haryana. The Bronze medals in this weihht category went to Raj Rupa Dey of West Bengal and Sakshi Meghvanshi of Rahasthan.
Jammu and Kashmir athletes faced a tough challenge today, exiting in the first round of both categories at the 69th National School Games-2025. In the -63 KG category, Zainab Arif of J&K was bested by GP Choudhary of IBSSO. Meanwhile, in the -68 KG, Arifa of J&K was narrowly defeated by Zoya Khan from Uttar Pradesh. (JkNS)
