Srinagar, Nov 16 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Sunday visited the home of tailor Muhammad Shafi in Nowgam, one of the victims of the police station explosion, offering condolences and briefing media on the incident.
Sharma as per news agency JKNS said that the explosion took place around 11:20 pm when teams were handling explosives recovered from a Faridabad case. “The material was highly volatile. Since the related FIRs were registered at Nowgam Police Station, it was brought there for technical examination and sealing,” he said.
According to Sharma, the consignment reportedly weighed 360 kilograms, and the process involved FSL experts, Crime Branch personnel, and local police teams. “Muhammad Shafi, a local tailor, was also present to assist in sealing the material. Unfortunately, some error or mishap caused the explosive to detonate, killing 10 people and injuring 28 others,” he said.
Sharma expressed deep grief over the incident and noted that top leaders, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and BJP leadership, had conveyed their condolences.
He added that following directions from the central government, he and former BJP president Ravinder Raina are visiting the affected families. “We met Muhammad Shafi’s children and family members, shared their pain, and assured them of all possible support and assistance,” Sharma said. (JKNS)
