Srinagar, Nov 20 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday dismissed a series of social media posts regarding the accidental explosion at Police Station Nowgam, terming the claims speculative, misleading and devoid of factual basis.
Police, in a statement issued to news agency JKNS, said several unverified narratives and assumptions were being circulated online in an attempt to misguide the public about the incident.
The statement clarified that the November 14 explosion occurred accidentally during the handling and sample-collection of a large quantity of recovered explosives by Forensic Science Laboratory experts. It said the mishap unfolded during a technical procedure carried out by trained personnel.
Police further informed that the Jammu and Kashmir Government has already set up a high-level committee on November 16 to investigate the incident. The panel is headed by the Principal Secretary, Home Department, and includes the IGP Kashmir Zone, District Magistrate Srinagar, and a senior scientist from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Government of India.
The police urged the public to refrain from sharing or relying on unverified social media content and follow only official communications regarding the matter. (JKNS)
