Srinagar, J&K: State Executive Member BJP, DDC Member Khonmoh & Co-Incharge Minority Morcha, UT of J&K, Er. Aijaz Hussain, has strongly opposed the proposed 20% hike in electricity tariffs, terming it anti-people and a direct burden on households already facing economic strain.

Er. Aijaz Hussain reminded that the government had earlier promised to provide 200 units of free electricity to the people. “Instead of delivering on what has been assured, the government is now proposing a 20% tariff hike, which is highly unjustified and unacceptable,” he said.

He added that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are already battling harsh winter conditions, rising costs of essential commodities, and limited earning opportunities during the cold months. “At a time when temperatures drop drastically and people rely heavily on electricity for heating and daily needs, any steep rise in tariff is insensitive and will push common families into further hardship,” he stated.

He urged the administration and the concerned authorities to immediately withdraw the proposal and work towards solutions that ensure reliable power supply at affordable rates. He emphasized that the government must keep public interest above everything, especially during winters when electricity usage increases but incomes remain restricted for many households.

Er. Aijaz Hussain reiterated that the welfare of the people must remain paramount. “Our focus should be on easing the difficulties of citizens, not adding to their challenges. I appeal to the administration to reconsider this move in the interest of justice, compassion, and public welfare,” he added.

He assured that he will continue to raise the voice of the people at every platform to ensure that no anti-public decision is imposed on the residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
