Shopian, Nov 21 (JKNS): The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zainapora Shopian has issued a stringent public notice prohibiting the use of loudspeakers, mikes and megaphones by vendors selling fruits and other consumables in moving vehicles across the subdivision, citing rising noise pollution, traffic obstruction and frequent public complaints.
According to the order availablewith news agency JKNS, the administration received repeated representations from local residents and observations were also made during the Block Diwas held on November 19, highlighting how vehicles fitted with loudspeakers were causing excessive noise, congestion and posing accident risks on inner streets, lanes, by-lanes and major roads in Zainapora. The SDM noted that such practices were creating inconvenience and affecting the health and comfort of the general public.
Exercising powers under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, the SDM directed that no vendor shall use mikes or megaphones while operating vehicles for vending in any part of the subdivision. The order states that the activity stands prohibited with immediate effect in the interest of public welfare and to prevent further disturbances on roads and pathways.
The SDM has warned that any violation direct or indirect will invite strict legal action under the law currently in force. The notice has been circulated to relevant authorities for implementation. (JKNS)
