New Delhi, Nov 24 (JKNS): Justice Surya Kant on Monday took oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
As per details available with news agency JKNS, President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath, which Justice Surya Kant took in Hindi in the name of God. He succeeds Justice B.R. Gavai.
Justice Surya Kant, who was appointed as the next CJI on October 30, will serve a tenure of nearly 15 months and is scheduled to demit office on February 9, 2027, upon attaining the age of 65 years.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several senior dignitaries. Justice Kant has previously been part of several significant constitutional and legal verdicts, including the judgment on the abrogation of Article 370. (JKNS)
