Kulgam, Nov 24 (JKNS): The district administration has ordered that all animal slaughtering within the municipal limits of Kulgam town will now be carried out exclusively at the newly established Modern Abattoir at Adpora.
As per an order issued by the Addl. District Magistrate Kulgam, the move has been taken to ensure full compliance with FSSAI norms, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and other applicable rules related to hygiene, waste management, and animal welfare.
The order states that all meat shop owners, dealers, butchers and individuals engaged in the trade are strictly barred from slaughtering animals at any place other than the municipal abattoir.
The CEO Municipal Council Kulgam has been directed to ensure the proper maintenance, operation and waste-management of the slaughterhouse. The officer has been instructed to guarantee that no solid or liquid waste from the facility is allowed to pollute any water body.
The Designated Officer Food Safety Kulgam has been asked to deploy staff for daily checks and inspections, while both the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer and District Sheep Husbandry Officer will station a veterinarian each at the facility for pre- and post-slaughter health examination of animals. The Chief Medical Officer will also provide medical teams whenever required for health check-ups of abattoir workers.
The administration has directed all concerned departments to ensure strict adherence to the Prevention of Cruelty (Slaughterhouse) Rules, Solid and Liquid Waste Management Rules, and guidelines issued by FSSAI and AWBI. (JKNS)
