Anantnag, Nov 26 (KNS): In a significant NDPS action, Police Station Pahalgam recovered a large quantity of contraband after a suspect abandoned a handcart and escaped into the nearby forest area in Awoora village.

According to police, as per news agency JKNS, a team from PS Pahalgam deputed for census duty was on its way toward Awoora Nallah in a departmental TATA Sumo when they spotted a suspicious man pushing an iron-made single-tyre handcart loaded with several sacks.

The moment he noticed the police vehicle, the individual left the cart behind and fled into the adjoining forest.

Upon securing the abandoned handcart, the police team inspected the sacks and discovered 24.50 kilograms of half-dried bhang leaves.

Following the recovery, police registered FIR No. 76/2025 under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Pahalgam.

During the investigation, the accused was identified as Gulam Nabi Khatana, son of Abdul Rashid, resident of Nallah Awoora, who remains absconding.

Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the accused at the earliest. (JKNS
