Srinagar, Dec 4 (JKNS): A day after the Cabinet cleared the proposal to reduce quotas in the EWS and RBA categories to enhance the open merit share by 10 percent, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the file has been formally signed and forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, CM Omar, as per news agency JKNS, said the proposal was sent to the LG’s office on Tuesday. “We expect the Lieutenant Governor to clear it soon, after which the government will issue the official order,” he said.
CM Omar Abdullah also said that appointment orders under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme (RAS), previously known as SRO-43, have been issued to the families of government employees who died while in service.
He said nearly 60 cases from Kashmir division were cleared on Wednesday, while similar orders were issued in Jammu earlier. “The scheme ensures that one eligible family member of a deceased employee receives a government job for support during crisis,” Omar said, adding that minor procedural issues, if any, will be resolved.
When asked about the ongoing investigation into the Nowgam blast, he said all related cases are being examined. “Where relaxation is required, the government will consider it. Otherwise, regular procedures will apply,” he said.
On the winter secretariat and functioning of offices, the CM said ministers and officials continue to work from Srinagar during the cold months. “Every week, one minister remains on duty here. People should not face any inconvenience, and their work must go on,” he added.
Responding to a query on renaming Raj Bhavan as Lok Bhavan, Omar Abdullah said names hold little significance compared to governance. “Changing names doesn’t change anything. People want delivery, not cosmetic changes,” he said. (JKNS)
