Kashmir Freezes Under Intense Cold, Shopian Coldest at -5.6°C, Pampore at -5°C, Srinagar at -4°C

Srinagar, Dec 4 (JKNS): The cold wave sweeping across Kashmir tightened its grip last night, with almost all weather stations in the Valley recording temperatures well below the freezing point, the meteorological data revealed on Thursday.

According to figures compiled by the independent weather outlet Kashmir Weather and accessed by news agency JKNS, Srinagar registered a biting minimum of -4.0°C, while Qazigund settled at -3.6°C. Pahalgam, continuing its trend of severe chill, recorded -4.8°C. Kupwara dipped to -3.2°C, Kokernag to -0.8°C, and the famous ski destination Gulmarg touched -1.0°C.

Pampore recorded an even sharper fall at -5.0°C, followed by Srinagar Airport at -4.6°C and Awantipora at -4.0°C. Budgam logged -4.2°C, while Anantnag, Baramulla and Zethan Rafiabad reported -4.8°C, -4.8°C, and -4.6°C respectively. Bandipora stood at -3.9°C, whereas Pulwama and Shopian shivered at -5.6°C and -5.3°C. Ganderbal recorded -2.6°C, and Sonamarg saw -3.6°C. The coldest point remained Zojila Pass at -17.0°C. No data was available from Kulgam.

In the Jammu region, conditions were relatively milder. Jammu recorded 8.0°C, Banihal 2.1°C, Batote 4.7°C, and Katra 8.4°C. Bhaderwah was one of the colder spots at 0.4°C, while Kathua and Jammu Airport registered 7.2°C and 8.7°C. Udhampur dipped to 3.0°C, Ramban to 4.3°C, Samba to 3.3°C, Rajouri to 1.7°C, Kishtwar to 3.6°C, Reasi to 6.1°C, and Doda to 4.7°C.

In the Union Territory of Ladakh, severe cold continued unabated, with Leh freezing at -9.0°C, Kargil at -7.8°C, and Nubra Valley at -7.6°C. (JKNS)
