Bandipora, Dec 5 (JKNS): The Contractors Association of Sonawari and Bandipora on Thursday held a joint press conference to express serious concern over the non-release of payments for works executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and several other developmental projects.
The contractors said that despite completing the allotted works long ago, their payments remain withheld, pushing them into severe financial distress.
District President of the Contractors Association, Naseer Ahmad Mir, addressing the media, said that many projects were initiated and completed nearly two years ago, yet the government has failed to clear their pending dues.
Prominent socio-political activist and contractor Qawam-ud-Din Shilvati also criticized the authorities for their alleged inaction. He cautioned that if the long-pending payments are not released soon, contractors may be compelled to suspend the JJM water supply schemes, which could directly impact public services.
The Association urged the concerned departments to take immediate action for clearing all outstanding payments to prevent disruption in essential water supply and ongoing developmental works across the region. (JKNS)
