Srinagar, Dec 6 (JKNS): The cold wave tightened its grip over Kashmir on Friday night as temperatures dipped sharply across the Valley, with Shopian emerging as the coldest region at a frigid –6.4°C, officials said.
As per temperature readings accessed by news agency JKNS, Pulwama and Pampore followed closely with minimum temperatures settling at –5.2°C. Baramulla also recorded a harsh low of –5.1°C, while Anantnag touched –4.9°C.
Srinagar Airport shivered at –4.8°C, whereas Pahalgam and Qazigund registered lows of –4.4°C and –4.2°C respectively. The summer capital, Srinagar city, settled at –4.1°C, matching Budgam, which reported an identical minimum.
In other districts, Awantipora saw the mercury drop to –3.8°C, Kupwara to –3.5°C, and Bandipora to –3.4°C. Ganderbal recorded –3.1°C, followed by Sonamarg at –3.0°C and Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, at –2.6°C.
Kulgam experienced slightly less severe conditions at –1.2°C, while Kokernag remained the warmest location in the Valley, recording a minimum of –0.2°C.
Meteorological officials warned that the cold wave is likely to continue in the coming days as sub-zero temperatures persist across most of Kashmir. (JKNS)
