Srinagar, Dec 7 (JKNS): A Forest Guard of the Verinag Forest Range tragically lost his life on Sunday while attempting to douse a forest fire in the Kapran area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the deceased, identified as Gull Mohammad Shah, a resident of Changoo, Verinag, was actively engaged in firefighting efforts in Compartment 48 of Hengipora Range when the incident occurred.
According to officials, Shah was trying to move away from the rapidly advancing flames when he slipped nearly 50 metres down a steep slope, sustaining fatal injuries.
He was immediately evacuated from the site and shifted to District Hospital Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Forest officials and locals have expressed deep grief over the loss of the dedicated forest worker, who died while performing his duty to protect the region’s woodland. (JKNS)
