Anantnag, Dec 8 (JKNS): Tensions ran high in Pushwara Khanbal on Monday after the family of a young woman alleged medical negligence at the Child & Maternity Hospital Anantnag, claiming it led to her death.
The incident has prompted the Health & Medical Education Department to order a formal inquiry.
Details available with news agency JKNS stated that, The deceased, Khushboo Jan (25), wife of Zubair Ahmad Bhat of Pushwara Khanbal, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, where she underwent a surgical delivery.
According to the family, she was shifted to a ward post-surgery, but her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Family members told JKNS that despite repeated alerts, no timely intervention was made, and she was eventually referred to GMC Anantnag. “She remained on a ventilator and passed away late Monday night,” a relative alleged, demanding “a fair and transparent investigation.”
Locals from Pushwara have joined the family’s call for accountability, insisting that the matter be probed thoroughly to determine responsibility.
Hospital authorities, meanwhile, said a committee has already been set up and an internal report will be submitted within days.
Taking cognizance of the incident, Government of Jammu & Kashmir has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal GMC Srinagar, as Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.
According to Government Order No. 750-JK (HME) of 2025, issued on December 8 a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the officer has been asked to examine the entire chain of events and submit recommendations within 14 days.
Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, has been directed to assist in the probe.
The Health & Medical Education Department said the outcome of the inquiry will determine further action. (JKNS)
