Banihal, Dec 8 (JKNS): Government Degree College Banihal paid rich tributes to renowned Urdu Poet Nasir Kazmi on his 100th birth anniversary.
To mark the occasion, the college organized a programme dedicated to Nasir Kazmi’s remarkable contributions to Urdu Poetry.
The purpose of the event was to remember the poetic contributions of the prominent poet, to reflect on the significance of poetry in human life, and to make students aware of the rich poetic traditions of the Indian subcontinent.
On the occasion, several speakers participated in the event and shared their insights about his poetry, its significance, and his important contributions to the field of poetry.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shafiq Ahmed Katoch, Principal, GDC Banihal. In his address, the Principal shed light on the rich poetic traditions of the Indian subcontinent and acknowledged the distinctive voice of Nasir Kazmi. He explained various aspects of Nasir Kazmi’s poetry, including his recurring themes such as love, memories of personal loss, displacement, separation, pain, and nostalgia, as well as the diverse symbolic structures present in his work.
Dr. Yashpal Sharma introduced all the poetic collections of Nasir Kazmi and then elaborated on the different aspects of his poetry. He emphasized how various regional, social, political, and cultural factors played a role in shaping the poetic narrative of Nasir Kazmi.
On this occasion, Dr. Umar Iqbal discussed the trend of modernism and highlighted the key features of Modern Urdu Poetry. He described Nasir Kazmi as a significant Modern Poet of Urdu Language, and stated that his works includes all the essential elements of modern verse. He further remarked that Nasir Kazmi’s poetry reflects human values that are deeply rooted in love.
The event was attended by a large number of students and faculty members of the college, and it was moderated and concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Ganai. (JKNS)
