Srinagar, Dec 13 (JKNS): Chilly conditions continued unabated across Jammu and Kashmir, with night temperatures remaining well below normal at several places in the Kashmir Valley.
According to data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -2.9°C, while the outskirts were colder with Srinagar Airport touching -4.0°C.
Pulwama recorded the lowest minimum temperature among inhabited areas at -4.2°C, while Shopian followed at -3.7°C, reflecting the persistence of a cold wave, particularly in south Kashmir.
Qazigund settled at -1.6°C, Pampore at -2.5°C, Budgam at -3.1°C and Awantipora dipped to -3.6°C. Other areas including Baramulla (-3.2°C), Bandipora (-2.1°C), Kupwara (-2.4°C) and Zethan Rafiabad (-3.1°C) also recorded sub-zero temperatures.
Tourist destinations witnessed comparatively moderate cold conditions, with Pahalgam at -2.8°C, Sonamarg at -0.3°C and Gulmarg recording a low of 1.6°C. Kokernag and Kulgam remained slightly above freezing at 0.1°C each, while Ganderbal recorded -1.8°C. Meanwhile, Zojila Pass remained locked in severe cold at -17.0°C, indicating harsh conditions in higher reaches.
In the Jammu region, temperatures stayed relatively mild. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 10.3°C, while Jammu Airport touched 10.9°C. Katra recorded 10.2°C, Kathua and Batote both settled at 8.0°C, and Reasi also recorded 8.0°C. In hilly areas, Bhaderwah recorded 3.6°C, Udhampur 3.4°C, Rajouri 3.8°C and Banihal dipped to 3.8°C.
Ladakh continued to reel under intense cold, with Leh recording -5.6°C, Kargil -5.2°C and Nubra Valley dipping to -5.7°C. (JKNS)
