Srinagar, Dec 15 (JKNS): Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Leader of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference in the Upper House, Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, has urged the Union Ministry of Railways to provide a scheduled halt of the Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag Railway Station.
In a letter addressed to Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, dated December 12 as per news agency JKNS, MP Ramzan highlighted that Anantnag is a major administrative, commercial and tourism hub of South Kashmir and caters to a large population from surrounding districts.
He appreciated the introduction of Vande Bharat train services in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that it has greatly improved rail connectivity in the region. However, he pointed out that the absence of a halt at Anantnag has caused inconvenience to commuters who largely depend on the station for travel.
Describing Anantnag as the “Gateway to South Kashmir,” the MP said the town plays a crucial role in tourism, horticulture and trade. He emphasized that a stoppage of the Vande Bharat Express at Anantnag would significantly boost regional connectivity, promote tourism and support local economic activities.
Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan requested the Railway Ministry to consider the public demand positively and include Anantnag Railway Station as a scheduled stop for the Vande Bharat Express. (JKNS)
