Anantnag, Dec 17 (JKNS): Acting on complaints from local residents and in the interest of public health, the authorities on Wednesday sealed two slaughterhouses in Anantnag district after finding grossly unhygienic practices and improper disposal of animal waste into a nearby water body.
As per news agency JKNS, two slaughter houses located at Hangalgund were sealed under section 152 BNSS by Revenue officials after the butchers were found to slaughter animals in unhygeinic conditions and deposited the animal waste in the waterbody flowing nearby.
Cognizance of the matter was taken when the local residents complained about the foul smell emanating from the water body due to deposition of animal waste in it and the dangerous conditions created due to stray dogs feeding on the dumped waste.
Upon further inspection, it was observed that unhygeinic and non-sanitory conditions prevailed in both sdalughter houses where dogs also roamed inside the slaughter house.
Despite several notices being served upon the owners to stop this practice, no change was observed on ground.
Keeping public health and safety into consideration, the slaughter houses were seized. (JKNS)
