Srinagar, Dec 20 (JKNS): Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Saturday said that the Pheran Day-Jashn-e-Chillai Kalan celebrations held at Kashmir Haat also marked the 40th anniversary of Kashmiri Artisans’ Day, highlighting the continued vibrancy of the Valley’s traditional craftsmanship.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Garg as per news agency JKNS said that Kashmir’s traditional attire and handicrafts reflect the region’s warmth, aesthetics, and cultural richness.
He credited local artisans for preserving this legacy while adapting to changing times.
He congratulated the Handicrafts and Handlooms Department for consistently organising initiatives such as three-day festivals, New Year artisan events, and new marketing platforms to promote local craftsmen.
Garg said the department has been proactive in providing artisans exposure and opportunities, particularly ahead of the winter and tourist seasons, adding that the administration is promoting the “local for local” concept to strengthen the craft-based economy.
Inviting people to visit the two-day exhibition at Kashmir Haat, the Divisional Commissioner said such events celebrate Kashmir’s heritage and also help artisans connect directly with buyers and tourists.
Garg also extended greetings for the upcoming festival season and briefed about winter preparedness, stating that the Integrated Command and Control Centre and district-level control rooms are functioning round the clock.
He said all Deputy Commissioners have set up control rooms and deployed nodal officers to ensure uninterrupted power supply, snow clearance, and essential services.
He further issued a fire safety advisory, urging people to exercise caution during winter months and regularly check heating and electrical appliances to prevent fire incidents. —(JKNS)
