Srinagar, Dec 20 (JKNS): To mark the commencement of Chilai-e-Kalan, the Handicrafts & Handloom Department organized Pheran Day at Kashmir Haat, Srinagar, celebrating the Valley’s traditional winter attire.

The event also featured musical performances at the Exhibition Ground, adding cultural vibrancy to the ongoing festivities, as per news agency JKNS.

Speaking to media, Director Handicrafts and Handloom, Massarat-ul-Islam, said, “Our program is part of Jashn-e-Chilai-Kalan, which begins tomorrow. Renowned Kashmiri artisans and weavers are showcasing products that help people overcome winter challenges.”

He said that, “We are providing warm Pherans, ladies’ suits, and other traditional items for families, friends, and communities to keep everyone warm during the cold season. The response so far has been very encouraging.”

Massarat said, “The event not only promotes our traditional crafts but also supports local artisans and startups. Pherans are a unique identity of Kashmir, designed keeping in mind our weather and cultural heritage.”

“Many customized and innovative designs are available, which can be worn both as a fashion statement and for daily warmth. We hope more people will visit and experience our rich craft traditions at affordable prices,” he said. (JKNS)
