Srinagar, Dec 25 (JKNS): The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has granted permission to recognised private educational institutions across the Kashmir Division to conduct remedial and supplementary teaching classes during the winter vacation for the academic session 2025-26.
According to a circular issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, as per news agency JKNS, several applications were received from heads of recognised private schools seeking approval to start remedial classes within their school premises during the vacation period.
The circular states that upon examination of these representations, it was found that schools intended to provide remedial teaching due to a limited number of working days in the Kashmir Division, caused by prolonged winter vacations, adverse climatic conditions, administrative closures and other unavoidable circumstances.
“In view of the above, permission is hereby granted for the conduct of remedial classes by recognised private educational institutions during the winter vacation,” the circular reads.
As per the guidelines, participation in remedial or supplementary classes shall be purely voluntary and subject to prior consent of parents. Schools have been strictly directed not to charge any additional fee from students for these classes.
The circular further mandates that adequate heating arrangements must be ensured in classrooms to protect students from harsh winter conditions. The remedial classes shall be conducted only between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, it added.
Earlier, the School Education Department announced winter vacations for classes up to 12th standard. As per the schedule, pre-primary (Balvatika) classes were closed from November 26, 2025, to February 28, 2026; Classes 1 to 8 from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026; and Classes 9 to 12 from December 11, 2025, to February 22, 2026.
