Anantnag, Dec 30 (JKNS): Assistant Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Anantnag, Malik Muzaffar, on Tuesday conducted an extensive inspection of the Qazigund market to ensure compliance with departmental norms and to safeguard consumer interests.

During the inspection, the Assistant Director, along with his team, checked various establishments including retail shops, meat sellers, chicken dealers, hotels, restaurants and bakery shops. Clear-cut instructions were issued to all traders to strictly adhere to the rate lists approved by the Consumer Affairs Department.

Malik Muzaffar emphasized that consumers should directly approach the department with their grievances, particularly regarding overpricing of essential commodities. He also instructed bakery owners, hoteliers and restaurant operators not to use domestic gas cylinders for commercial purposes and to maintain proper hygiene standards.

Bakery shop owners were further directed to ensure proper labeling of bakery items, clearly mentioning the date of manufacture and expiry. The Assistant Director warned that violations would invite strict action.

He said that regular market checks will continue in the future to prevent unnecessary hikes in the prices of essential commodities and to ensure that consumers do not suffer due to unfair trade practices. (JKNS)
