FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar, Dec 29 (JKNS): National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Monday stressed the need for firm intervention by the Union Government to prevent attacks on religious institutions and maintain communal harmony across the country.

Reacting to reports of violence targeting religious places, Dr Farooq while speaking to media persons as per news agency JKNS said that such elements exist in society but cannot be allowed to undermine India’s constitutional values.

“Evil exists and will continue to exist, but India is a secular nation where the Constitution guarantees every religion the freedom to run its institutions,” he said, adding that it is the Centre’s responsibility to guide states and ensure such incidents are stopped.

Speaking on India-Bangladesh relations, the NC President said cooperation should be strengthened after the upcoming elections in Bangladesh.

“A new government will be formed after elections. I hope New Delhi and the new leadership will work together to open new avenues of cooperation,” he said.

On Kashmir, Abdullah expressed hope that the New Year would usher in peace, ease the suffering of people and help revive tourism in the region. (JKNS
