Shopian, Dec 31 (JKNS): In a sustained crackdown against drug trafficking during 2025, Police in Shopian registered 72 FIRs under relevant provisions of law and arrested 84 accused persons involved in narcotics trade across the district.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, 10 notorious drug traffickers were booked under the stringent PIT NDPS Act to prevent repeated offences, reflecting a zero-tolerance approach towards drug peddling.

During the year, a total of 317.532 kilograms of narcotics including Charas, Cannabis, Poppy Straw and Heroin were seized.

Police also recovered 24,700 ml of Codeine-based syrups and 195 tablets of Anxit/Alprazolam, with the seized contraband valued at several crores of rupees.

In a major blow to the financial network of drug traffickers, four residential properties acquired through proceeds of narcotics crime, valued at approximately ₹1 crore, were seized following due legal process.

Additionally, 716.866 kilograms of contraband and 23,700 ml of illicit drug bottles related to 58 previous NDPS cases were destroyed at Kashmir Health Care System, IGC Lassipora. Wild cannabis cultivated on about 100 kanals of state land was also identified and destroyed.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to eradicate drugs from the district and appealed to parents, youth and civil society to cooperate with law enforcement, assuring that information shared by the public is treated with utmost confidentiality. (JKNS)
