Srinagar, Jan 3 (JKNS): Minister for Agriculture Javed Ahmed Dar on Saturday said that the State Commission for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) will be constituted shortly, as all mandatory formalities for its establishment have already been completed.
Speaking to media persons as per news agency JKNS on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony in Rafiabad, the Minister said the formation of the PRIs Commission is the first step and once it is formally notified, appointments will follow and the Commission will begin functioning.
Dar clarified that financial assistance to Panchayati Raj Institutions from the Centre is continuing without any interruption. He said Gram Sabha meetings are being held regularly and will continue in the current year as well as the next year.
“Central grants to PRIs have not been stopped. Gram Sabhas are being convened and the process will continue in the coming period as well,” he said.
Replying to queries regarding the completion of the tenure of District Development Councils (DDCs), the Minister said that all democratic institutions operate strictly within the ambit of law.
“Every institution functions as per legal provisions. Once the tenure of any body or its representatives comes to an end, it cannot continue beyond that period,” he added. (JKNS)
