Kishtwar, Jan 6 (JKNS): Under the guidance and directions of District Child Protection Officer Kishtwar Tariq Parveaz Qazi (JKAS) an awareness programme on Child Marriage was organised at a Madrasa Islamia Arabia Khayarul-Uloom in Semna Colony Kishtwar, to sensitise the community about the harmful effects of child marriage and the importance of protecting children’s rights and was jointly conducted by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline and One Stop Centre (OSC)
Speaking on the occasion, Touseef Iqbal Butt (Protection Officer-NIC) while interacting with students and staff members of the Madrasa, highlighted the legal provisions related to child marriage, its social and psychological impact, and the role of religious institutions in preventing this social evil.
He insisted that Molanas hold a position of trust and respect in society and can play a vital role in preventing child marriage. Through sermons, religious teachings, and community interactions, they can educate people about the harmful effects of child marriage and emphasize that Islam promotes education, consent, and the well-being of children.
CWC Member Wazir Ahmed Waza appealed to religious leaders, teachers and students to actively support the government’s efforts in making society child marriage free by reporting on Child Helpline (1098) about Child Marriage and ensuring a safe and dignified future for every child.
