Srinagar, Jan 6 (JKNS): Kashmir continued to reel under intense cold conditions as several parts of the Valley recorded sub-zero minimum temperatures on Tuesday, with tourist resort Gulmarg emerging as the coldest place at minus 8.6 degrees Celsius.
According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius, while the Srinagar Airport dipped further to minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, Kupwara minus 3.1 degrees, and Kokernag minus 2.0 degrees Celsius.
South Kashmir witnessed sharper cold as Pahalgam recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius. Anantnag settled at minus 5.6 degrees, Pulwama at minus 5.4 degrees, Shopian at minus 6.0 degrees, and Zethan Rafiabad at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius. Pampore recorded minus 3.0 degrees, Awantipora minus 2.4 degrees, Budgam minus 3.9 degrees, Baramulla minus 4.0 degrees, Bandipora minus 3.1 degrees, while Kulgam recorded a comparatively higher minimum of minus 0.2 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, temperatures remained above freezing in most areas, though cold conditions persisted in higher reaches. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Jammu Airport registered 7.6 degrees. Banihal recorded 1.5 degrees, Batote 1.7 degrees, Katra 4.8 degrees, Udhampur 4.5 degrees, Ramban 2.7 degrees, Doda 3.1 degrees, Poonch 2.3 degrees, and Kishtwar 2.2 degrees Celsius. Bhaderwah was the only place in the region to record sub-zero temperature at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, while Rajouri settled at 0.0 degrees.
In Ladakh, Leh continued to experience extreme cold, recording a minimum temperature of minus 11.2 degrees Celsius, the data showed.
Meanwhile, data for Ganderbal, Sonamarg and Samba was not available at the time of compilation. (JKNS)
