New Delhi, Jan 8 (JKNS): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the schedule for the houselisting operations of the Census of India 2027, which will be conducted between April 1 and September 30, 2026 across all States and Union Territories.

According to a notification issued by the Office of the Registrar General, India, as per news agency JKNS, the houselisting exercise will be carried out over a period of 30 days, with the exact timeframe to be specified separately by each State and Union Territory within the notified window.

The notification states that the process will be undertaken under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990, and will supersede an earlier notification issued on January 7, 2020, except for actions already taken under the previous order.

In a significant move, the Central Government has also introduced the option of self-enumeration for the upcoming Census. The self-enumeration facility will be available for a period of 15 days, immediately prior to the commencement of the house-to-house houselisting operations.

The houselisting phase is a crucial component of the Census process, aimed at collecting information on residential buildings, households and basic amenities, which forms the foundation for subsequent population enumeration. (JKNS)
