Srinagar, Jan 8 (JKNS): The Regional Transport Office (RTO), Kashmir, has issued a stern public advisory asking vehicle owners across the Kashmir Division to clear all pending traffic challans within a week, cautioning that non-compliance will attract strict legal measures.

As per a public notice issued by Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Qazi Irfan, a copy of which has been accessed by news agency JKNS, authorities have found that numerous two-wheelers are being operated in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, particularly with riders and pillion riders not wearing helmets and indulging in other traffic violations.

The notice underlines that such unlawful practices pose a serious risk to road safety and public order, endangering lives and property. It adds that challans have already been issued against several violators, many of which are still pending.

Vehicle owners and operators have been directed to clear their outstanding challans within seven days from the issuance of the notice.

The RTO has warned that failure to adhere to the directive will result in stringent action under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including heavy penalties, suspension of driving licences and vehicle documents, and seizure of vehicles, without any further notice. (JKNS)
