Srinagar, Jan 10 (JKNS): Intense cold conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on Friday night, with most places recording sub-zero minimum temperatures.
Data compiled by independent news channel Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, In the Kashmir region, temperatures remained well below the freezing point. Pulwama recorded a low of minus 8.0°C, while Shopian was the coldest at minus 8.2°C. Pahalgam registered minus 7.8°C, Sopore minus 7.6°C, and Srinagar Airport dipped to minus 7.2°C.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar city settled at minus 5.7°C, while Qazigund recorded minus 6.3°C and Kupwara minus 6.1°C. Gulmarg, a key tourist destination, recorded minus 6.8°C. Kulgam’s data was not available.
In the Jammu region, cold conditions also tightened their grip, particularly in higher reaches. Bhaderwah recorded minus 2.8°C, while Samba and Rajouri both settled at minus 1.6°C. Banihal recorded minus 0.4°C, and Udhampur was close to freezing at 0.2°C. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 3.6°C, while Katra registered 5.2°C. Data for Doda and Poonch was not available.
Ladakh continued to reel under extreme cold, with Drass once again emerging as the coldest place, recording a minimum of minus 24.6°C. Padum recorded minus 19.6°C, Nyoma minus 20.3°C, and Hanle minus 17.0°C. Leh town recorded minus 14.4°C, while Kargil registered minus 13.7°C. Nubra Valley recorded minus 13.5°C, and Tangste settled at minus 17.7°C.
Meteorological conditions indicate the continuation of harsh winter conditions across the region, with residents advised to take necessary precautions against extreme cold. (JKNS)
