J&K Assembly’s 5th Session to Begin on Feb 2

Jammu, Jan 12 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has released the provisional calendar for the 5th Session of the Legislative Assembly of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, clearly outlining the date-wise legislative and financial business from February to April 2026.

As per the calendar accessed by news agency JKNS, the 5th Session will commence on Monday, February 2, 2026, with the Lieutenant Governor’s Address to the House.

This will be followed by a discussion on the Motion of Thanks on February 3, 4 and 5, with the government’s reply scheduled during these sittings.

The Assembly will take up crucial financial business on Friday, February 6, when the Annual Financial Statement of Expenditure for the year 2026–27 and the Supplementary Statement of Expenditure for 2025–26 will be presented.

A general discussion on the Budget will be held on February 8 and 9, followed by the government’s reply on February 10.

According to the provisional calendar, Demands for Grants will be discussed on February 11, 12, 14, 16 and 17, with holidays and off-days scheduled in between as notified by the Secretariat.

In March 2026, the House will take up Appropriation Bills and government business on March 27, followed by Private Members’ Bills on March 28 and Private Members’ Resolutions on March 29.

The April sittings will resume with Private Members’ Bills and Resolutions on April 2, while April 3 has been notified as a holiday on account of Good Friday. Government business is scheduled for April 4, marking the concluding phase of the session.

The provisional calendar indicates a packed legislative agenda spread over three months, covering the Lieutenant Governor’s Address, budgetary approvals, demands for grants, appropriation bills and private members’ legislative business. (JKNS)
