Sopore, Jan 13 (JKNS): A joint team of the Forest Protection Force (FPF) and territorial forest staff on Tuesday seized illicit Minor Forest Produce (MFP), locally known as Kawduch mool (Beriberi roots), from Cherhaar village of Kandi forest range in north Kashmir’s Sopore.
Official sources told news agency JKNS that the action was taken following information received by the department. The joint team included FPF personnel from MRC Kandi along with forest staff of Botingoo 1st Block, led by the Assistant Director Operations and the Range Officer Kandi.
During the operation, around two quintals of illicit MFP were recovered from the residential houses of Ishfaq Lone and Showkat Lone, sons of Gani Lone, and Majid Lone, son of Gulla Lone, all residents of Cherhaar village.
The seized material was shifted to the Forest Range Office Bomai Kandi under Forest Case No. 25/53105 dated January 13, 2026, and handed over to the concerned Block Officer against proper receipt.
Officials said further investigation is underway and legal action will follow as per rules. (JKNS)
