Keran, Jan 15 (JKNS): The Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of Keran Sector, Kupwara, organised the 10th Indian Armed Forces Veterans’ Day at Keran, paying rich tribute to the courage, sacrifices and lifelong dedication of military veterans.
Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is observed annually on January 14 to commemorate the legacy and distinguished service of Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, who retired on this day in 1953.
To mark the occasion, a commemorative outreach programme was organised, bringing together veterans, widows of ex-servicemen and serving personnel. The event honoured the valour and selfless service of those who served the nation with distinction.
Veterans shared inspiring accounts of their years in uniform, motivating the younger generation and expressing appreciation for the Army’s continued initiatives focused on post-retirement welfare.
The programme witnessed the participation of 11 ex-servicemen and six widows of ex-servicemen, providing a meaningful platform for interaction and fostering camaraderie and mutual respect between veterans and serving troops.
The gathering also offered updates on welfare measures, education and scholarship schemes, healthcare benefits, pension policies and employment opportunities available to veterans and their families.
Adding to the outreach effort, a health check-up booth and a grievance redressal cell were set up to address medical concerns and service-related issues on the spot.
The event concluded on a solemn and inspiring note, reaffirming the enduring bond between the Indian Armed Forces and the people they protect. It served as a powerful reminder of the legacy of service and patriotism, encouraging future generations to uphold the values exemplified by the nation’s veterans. (JKNS)
