Jammu, Jan 17 (JKNS): Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Ram Niwas Sharma, on Saturday exhorted students to emerge as drivers of change and job creators, rather than remaining job seekers, stressing that the future belongs to those who innovate, lead and create opportunities.
As per news agency JKNS, Ram Niwas Sharma was speaking at the National Technical Conclave on India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) held at the Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu. The conclave is being organised by GCET Jammu in technical collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, in close association with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Industries and Commerce, J&K Government.
Highlighting the rapid technological transformation, Sharma underlined that capacity building of faculty is imperative to keep pace with emerging technologies and global developments. He said academic institutions must continuously upgrade skills and curricula to prepare students for future-ready industries like semiconductors.
Earlier, MLA Nagrota Devyani Rana, in her address, said that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir possess immense talent and have proved their capabilities across sectors. She encouraged students to actively participate in the conclave, stating that chip design and semiconductor technologies will be among the biggest drivers of future employment and innovation.
She also emphasised the importance of internships, particularly in emerging technological domains, asserting that hands-on exposure is crucial for students to remain competitive and employable in today’s fast-evolving job market.
In her welcome address, Director and Principal GCET Jammu, Dr. Sameeru Sharma, outlined the objectives and broad contours of the national conclave, while Director, India Semiconductor Mission, spoke in detail about the vision and goals of ISM and opportunities for young engineers.
The conclave will feature technical sessions, expert talks and interactive discussions involving academicians, industry experts and policymakers, focusing on challenges and opportunities under the India Semiconductor Mission.
Director School Education Jammu Naseem Javaid Choudhary, Director Technology at ISM Dr. Manish Kumar Hooda, experts from IIT Jammu, Keynes Technologies, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. (JKNS)
