Srinagar, Jan 19 (JKNS): The International Human Rights Organization Jammu & Kashmir Chapter (IHRO) will commemorate International Women’s Day 2026 in Srinagar by honouring 100 exceptional women from across the Kashmir Division for their outstanding contributions to society, reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment, gender equality and social justice.

As per news agency JKNS, The main event will be held on March 8, 2026, at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, where the women achievers will be presented with Hosla Afzai (Encouragement) Awards for their dedication and excellence in diverse fields. Among the distinguished honourees is Advocate Safa Arshid, whose selection has been described by IHRO as a matter of pride and recognition of her impactful work.

Adv Safa Arshid is currently serving as an Assistant Legal Aid Counsel with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), where she provides free legal assistance to undertrial prisoners and economically weaker sections, ensuring access to justice for those unable to afford legal representation. Her role reflects a strong commitment to fairness, equality and the rule of law.

At the early stages of her legal career, Adv Safa Arshid also voluntarily extended legal aid to widows and orphans, highlighting her humanitarian approach to the legal profession. She remains actively engaged in court proceedings, legal counselling, and the drafting of petitions and applications, consistently working to protect constitutional rights and safeguard the interests of vulnerable sections of society.

Beyond her legal profession, Adv Safa Arshid is also known as a writer, social worker and peace activist. She has been actively involved in initiatives promoting social harmony, peace-building and the welfare of marginalised communities, particularly among the downtrodden sections of Jammu and Kashmir. Her work reflects a blend of ethical legal practice and social responsibility.

IHRO officials said that honouring women like Adv Safa Arshid on International Women’s Day is aimed at recognising role models who inspire change, resilience and leadership, and encouraging more women to take active roles in nation-building.

Through the International Women’s Day 2026 programme, the International Human Rights Organization Jammu & Kashmir Chapter reiterated its resolve to promote human rights, women’s leadership, equality and an empowered society, while celebrating the strength and achievements of women across the region.
