Kulgam, Jan 19 (JKNS): Traffic Police Sector Kulgam-Qazigund achieved significant milestones in traffic enforcement, regulation, and road safety during the year 2025, imposing fines amounting to over ₹1.59 crore on traffic violators. The achievements were recorded under the leadership of DySP Traffic Mohd Aslam and the direct supervision of SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh.
In an official statement issued here to news agency JKNS, the Traffic Police revealed that a total of 36,492 challans were issued during 2025, realizing a fine of ₹1,59,07,900, while 186 vehicles were seized for various traffic violations.
Notably, the sector witnessed a 20 percent decline in road accidents compared to the previous year, reflecting the positive impact of sustained enforcement and preventive initiatives.
Alongside strict enforcement, the Traffic Police conducted 269 traffic awareness programmes and launched 1,197 special drives aimed at curbing violations and promoting road safety awareness among the public.
Traffic management remained a top priority during high-pressure periods such as the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and the peak fruit season, ensuring smooth movement of pilgrims and fruit-laden vehicles. Barricades were installed along NH-44 from Nowyug Tunnel to Alstop Crossing, and at key locations including Khudawani Town, Kulgam Town, Gantagar to Sangus Crossing, and Hospital Road. Night-time traffic regulation was further strengthened through the use of reflective jackets and handheld signaling devices.
Special drives were carried out against rash driving and stunt riding, while crash barriers were erected at vulnerable and accident-prone spots to prevent mishaps. Enhanced deployment at identified black spots and continuous monitoring led to improved compliance on major routes.
Awareness initiatives were conducted in schools, colleges, and transport stands, with special focus on students and drivers to educate them about traffic laws and safe driving practices. With the support of the Municipal Committee Kulgam and other allied departments, new parking facilities were also created in Kulgam Town to ease congestion.
Removal of vendors and encroachments from roads and footpaths across Kulgam towns emerged as a major achievement, significantly improving traffic flow.
The Traffic Wing adopted a zero-tolerance policy against visible violations such as non-wearing of helmets, triple riding, dangerous driving, juvenile driving, overloading of public service vehicles, and vehicles operating without valid fitness.
The Traffic Police acknowledged the positive cooperation from the general public, transporters, drivers, and civil society, terming it a key factor in achieving the year’s targets. The role of print, electronic, and social media was also appreciated for effectively disseminating traffic awareness messages.
The Traffic Wing further expressed gratitude to the District Police, District Administration, and transport-related departments for their continued support in smooth implementation of traffic management measures.
Reaffirming its resolve for the coming year, Traffic Police Sector Kulgam–Qazigund stated that it remains committed in 2026 to further improve hassle-free traffic movement and work towards a traffic-violation-free society across Kulgam Town, Qazigund Town, other urban areas, and rural parts of the district.
