Srinagar, Jan 19 (JKNS): Director Civil Defence & SDRF Kashmir, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir on Monday said that, “The State Disaster Response Force has rendered selfless and exemplary service to the nation and its citizens, and must continue to serve society with greater enthusiasm, zeal and commitment,”
Director Imtiyaz as per news agency JKNS said, while addressing the 14th Annual Raising Day function of SDRF at the premises of SDRF 1st Battalion, Srinagar, on Monday.
The event was marked by an impressive march past by contingents of SDRF, NDRF and the Pipe Band. Imtiyaz Hussain Mir, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, took the salute of the march past. The function was attended by Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion Srinagar, Masroor Ahmad Mir, DySPs, and other officers and officials of SDRF.
Addressing the gathering, Imtiyaz Hussain Mir lauded the dedication and professionalism displayed by SDRF personnel during various emergencies and disaster response operations, stating that their role has been crucial in safeguarding lives and property across Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighting the achievements of the Battalion, Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion Srinagar, Masroor Ahmad Mir, said that during the year 2025, the unit conducted 810 awareness camps, 103 mock exercises and 123 rescue operations. “As many as 63,640 personnel, including 70 Apda Sakhis, students and other stakeholders, were trained in disaster preparedness to act as first responders during emergencies,” he said.
The Commandant further said that SDRF played a significant role during Shri Amarnathji Yatra–2025. “During the Yatra, 5,613 pilgrims were provided pre-hospital medical treatment, 7,823 pilgrims were given moral and psychological support, while 1,830 pilgrims were administered on-the-spot oxygen due to altitude-related breathing difficulties,” he added.
On the occasion, appreciation certificates and cash rewards were distributed among officers and officials for their exemplary services during Operation Sindoor, Shri Amarnathji Yatra–2025, and various rescue operations carried out across the Kashmir Province.
The programme concluded with a reaffirmation of SDRF’s commitment to strengthen disaster preparedness and response capabilities in the region. (JKNS)
