Leh (Ladakh), Jan 21 (JKNS): The second day of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) 2026 witnessed an electrifying start at the Nawang Dorjan Stobdan (NDS) Stadium, with the first four gold medals of the Games being decided, all in the newly introduced figure skating events.
Haryana emerged as the early frontrunners, clinching two gold medals, while Uttarakhand and Kerala secured one gold each.
Figure skating made its debut in the Ladakh leg of KIWG 2026, adding elegance and excitement to the ice. A total of 20 skaters from five states and two Union Territories competed across novice free skating and advanced short programme categories. Haryana’s Hiya Adlakha claimed the first gold of the Games, while Ladakh’s Stanzin Khando and Tenzin Kunzin took silver and bronze respectively.
With five medals overall including two gold, one silver and two bronze Haryana currently tops the medal standings.
Meanwhile, ice hockey, Ladakh’s most popular sport, continued to draw packed crowds. In a thrilling men’s Group B encounter, hosts Ladakh defeated ITBP 3-1, displaying speed, skill and physical intensity to register a convincing win.
The Khelo India Winter Games 2026 are being conducted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, in association with the Sports Authority of India, with technical conduct overseen by National Sports Federations. (JKNS)
