Srinagar, Jan 22 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) has announced a physical counselling process for the allotment of 50 MBBS supernumerary seats to students originally admitted to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), Kakryal.
In an official communiqué as per news agency JKNS, the counselling will be conducted on January 24, 2026, at the JKBOPEE offices in Jammu and Srinagar, with candidates required to report between 10 am and 11 am.
The move follows directions from the Health and Medical Education Department, UT of J&K, and subsequent approval by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC), allowing redistribution of students to Government Medical Colleges within the Union Territory.
The 50 supernumerary seats have been apportioned among newly established medical colleges, including Anantnag, Baramulla, Doda, Handwara, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur, with seats allocated as per sanctioned intake capacity.
JKBOPEE clarified that only those candidates whose names appear in the official annexure and who were earlier allotted seats in SMVDIME through the 2025 counselling rounds are eligible to participate.
Seat allotment during the counselling will be carried out strictly on NEET-UG merit and the preferences exercised by the candidates at the time of counselling, the Board said.
Candidates have been instructed to appear in person along with all original certificates for verification. In exceptional cases, representation through a close blood relative will be permitted, subject to submission of a valid authorization letter and identity proof.
The Board has urged all concerned candidates to adhere strictly to the counselling schedule, noting that non-appearance may lead to forfeiture of claim over seat allocation. (JKNS)
